Italian gothic metal brought out almost every kind of metal fan you can think of to the Aztec Theatre. With a lineup that included not just gothic metal, but also metalcore and post-hardcore, I guess a wide array of people is expected. Axty from Brazil kicked off the night, showing an impressive display of the different types of vocal frys and squeals that one can accomplish with just incredible technique. For a three-piece band (on this date), their sound felt much fuller and more complete.

Escape the Fate's performance was pretty nostalgic, having grown up in the era where this genre of rock was king. Skinny jeans, swooped hair, studded belts. It was like a trip back to the late 2000s. Though the lineup has changed and only the drummer, Robert Ortiz, remains from the original band, that didn't stop the crowd from going full feral. Mosh pits, walls of death, girls crowdsurfing like it was no one's business. It was a sight that undeniably brought a smile to my face.

Lacuna Coil's set brought the drama to the stage. Their signature painted faces and gothic outfits that lend well to the powerful vocals of Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro. Their stage presence is unmatched, launching straight into their setlist with a fury that fueled the energy throughout the entire theatre. San Antonio's love for heavy and powerful music brings in some of the best of the best, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
