Paul McCartney: Got Back
at the Alamodome
Photos and words by Sid Rodriguez-Tovar
Sir Paul McCartney took over the Alamodome this past Saturday, bringing in over 45,000 people to revel in his star power. After more than a decade since his last visit, Macca serenaded his adoring San Antonio fans for almost three hours, a feat that is even more incredible when you consider his current age.
Though the show started slightly later than anticipated, it seemed as though the crowd really didn't mind. If anything, it allowed them to spend more time chatting with friends, reliving past memories together, and building up their excitement for the highly anticipated performance. Several fans went all out with their outfits, donned in custom-designed jean jackets, Sgt. Pepper-themed coats, sparkly suits, and so much more. Near the front of the stage waved a sign that said 'Marry us, Paul" (spoiler alert: he did just that.)
With a setlist that included hits from his expansive solo discography, as well as timeless classics from The Beatles and Wings, fans were spoiled with music that has defined several generations. McCartney's impact on music is almost immeasurable, and his tributes to previous times in his musical life felt magical, almost like a small window into the past. Fans of all ages were drawn to his palpable aura, and it's easy to see why: Sir Paul McCartney is a true rock star.
